Kansas City, Mo. -- UMKC officially dedicated Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field on Saturday, Oct. 3 prior to the men's soccer game against Western Illinois.  The University and Athletics Department recognized Ray Beagle and Charles Egan of the Durwood Foundation for their contributions and generosity prior to the start of the game.

The $9 million complex is located at the heart of UMKC's campus, neighboring Kansas City's renowned Country Club Plaza.  The 850-seat facility is lighted and features synthetic turf.  It is surrounded by a four-lane training and recreation track.

A support building houses locker rooms for the UMKC men's and women's soccer and track & field teams, as well as the softball and visiting teams.  Coaches' offices and meeting rooms have views of the field, further enhancing the recruiting appeal.  The building in the south end of the facility is expected to be completed at the end of October.

The project was funded through a $5 million gift from the Stanley H. Durwood Foundation and additional university resources.
