Stephen Brough is entering his second season as an assistant coach with the UMKC men's basketball program.  Brough joined the 'Roos after serving as the Director of Basketball Operations at Baylor University from 2003-09.

Brough came to Kansas City after helping guide the Bears to the first back-to-back 20 win seasons in school history.  During the 2007-08 campaign, he helped lead Baylor to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1988, as the squad finished the year with a 21-11 overall record.

A year later, Baylor picked up its first post season win since 1950, as it advanced all the way to the championship game of the National Invitational Tournament.  The NIT final appearance was the first in the BU annals.  Prior to playing in the NIT, the Bears became the first No. 9 seed in Big 12 history to advance to Big 12 Tournament championship game, as the squad beat Kansas and Texas before falling to Missouri in the final.  Overall, Baylor finished the year with a 24-15 overall record.

Prior to moving to Waco, Brough spent the 2002-03 season as an assistant coach at Wright State, where he was responsible for recruiting, scouting and on-court instruction.  His efforts contributed to Wright State’s 2003 recruiting class being rated among the top-40 nationally by HoopScoop.com.

Before joining the WSU coaching staff, Brough served six years at his alma mater, Miami (Ohio) University.  As an undergraduate, he worked as a student manager with the Redhawk men’s basketball team and during graduate school, he became the team’s administrative assistant, arranging travel plans, assisting with scouting reports, conducting film exchange and assisting with camp direction.  Brough was at Miami during the Redhawks’ Sweet 16 run in 1999 and worked with future NBA players Ira Newble and Wally Szczerbiak.

In July 2000, Brough moved into a position as an assistant coach with Miami’s women’s program, a role he served for two seasons before heading to Wright State.  In two seasons with the team, Brough worked with developing the team’s post players, game planning, scouting and carried an increased role in recruiting.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Brough received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and organizational behavior from Miami (Ohio) in 1996.  He then went on to earn his master of arts degree in teaching (secondary education) from Miami in 1999.

Brough and his fiancé, Katy Hart, will be married in August 2009.
