Chiaparro Joins Kansas City Men's Soccer Coaching Staff

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former Kansas City men's soccer player Tato Chiaparro joins the program as an assistant coach, announced today by head coach Rick Benben. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native was a Roo for two seasons from 2013-14. His main coaching responsibilities will include recruiting, video analysis and scouting.

“Kansas City Athletics is like a second home for me,” said Chiaparro. “Being back as a full time assistant coach with the Roos is like making a dream into a reality. I am excited to make a difference and be part of this.”

Chiaparro was a stand-out at Kansas City earning All-WAC honors in each of his two years, including a First Team nod in 2014. During that year, Tato led Roo midfielders with five assists en route to being named to the NSCAA All-Region Third Team. He was a Scholar Athlete and honored on the Academic All-WAC Team. He finished his Kansas City career scoring eight goals and posting nine assists.

Prior to Kansas City, Tato enjoyed a two-year stint at Lewis and Clark Community College (Ill.) from 2011-12. While there, he was a NJCAA All-American and NJCAA Academic All-American in his second year. Other accolades included Conference Forward of the Year and Honorable Mention All-Conference as a freshman.

In his four-year collegiate career, he totaled 27 goals and over 30 assists.

"We are very fortunate to have Tato joining us at Kansas City,” said Benben. “He is an excellent on-field coach, who has also demonstrated outstanding capabilities in all areas of his responsibilities. His passion for Kansas City Men's Soccer and our entire family will serve us well.”

Tato graduated from Colégio João XXIII High School in Brazil where he played fútsal. He went on to earn his Communication Studies and Spanish degrees from UMKC graduating in 2015. Tato also received a master's degree in Multicultural Education from UMKC in 2017.

He is married to Angélica M. Duckworth.
