KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (21-15) knocked-off former league rival Omaha (3-30) 8-0 in five innings behind three homeruns on Tuesday afternoon at the Urban Youth Academy.
Bre Hunter got the homerun parade started when she belted a grand slam to center, knocking in Ashley Thorne and Sydney Garcia, who had each singled earlier in the inning, as well as Madason Shaw, who reached on a walk.
Finally, with one out in the fifth, Faith Willis put the game away when she drilled the final homerun of the day to center to send the Roos to the 8-0 victory.
On the mound, Mia Hoveland started and tossed a hitless first two innings with three strikeouts, while D.J. Cannon (7-5) came on in relief and picked up the victory after going 3.0 innings, allowing one hit and three strikeouts.
The Blue & Gold return to Western Athletic Conference play on Friday when they open up a three-game series against California Baptist at 5 p.m. CT on Apr. 5 at UYA.
