RIO VERDE, Ariz. - With a team score of 624 (311-313), the UMKC women's golf team finished 16th out of 18 teams at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in its first 2019 spring event. The golfers competed at the Quail Run Golf Course from Saturday through Sunday (Feb. 23-24). The event was shortened from three to two rounds, due to snow arriving in the Rio Verde, Ariz., area -- a suburb of Phoenix -- overnight prior to the Friday initially scheduled start. But the course was ready to go Saturday after a day of warmer temperatures.
Theresa de Bochdanovits carded the Roos best individual score with a two-round output of 152 (75-77). She was +10 over par, which resulted in a tie for 31st place overall. She had the 13th-best average amongst all golfers on the par-4 holes. She averaged 4.23 and was just +5 on all of the par 4's. Jaime Bellingham finished in the top 50 with a 153 total (80-73), which put her in 34th place (tie).
Earning overall medalist honors, Claire Hernandez of Western Michigan walked to the club house with an even par score of 142 (70-72). Xavier claimed the team championship with a 591 (299-292), which was +23 over par.
The course was a par-71 at 6,075 yards. The Roos recorded eight birdies overall during the two rounds.
