KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (11-3) extended its win streak to nine straight games with a 7-0 win over Grambling State (7-2) behind a no-hitter by Kailyn Packard, before falling to host Alabama State (7-5) 7-2 in the late game from Barbara Williams Field in Montgomery, Ala.

In the game Packard tossed all seven innings for the Roos, allowing no hits, while striking out 10 Tigers.

Offensively, UMKC plated four in the second inning.  Bre Hunter opened with a single and scored on Ashlynn Williams’ triple, while Williams scored on a Sydney Garcia double.  Alexis D’Ambrosio’s single scored Madason Shaw, who reached after getting hit by a pitch, with the final run coming when Garcia stole home.

In the sixth, the Roos added two more when McKenzie Harrish doubled in Macy Hornosky and Hunter and in the seventh Ashley Thorne knocked in Faith Willis with a double to left.

In the late game, the Roos fell to the Hornets, 7-2 despite an RBI single from D’Ambrosio.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CT when they close out the tournament against Howard.
