TULSA, Okla. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (1-3) defeated Oral Roberts on Saturday, sweeping the Golden Eagles at a score of 4-0.
Coming off three straight losses to start the 2019 season, UMKC came out firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s match to pick up its first win of the season.
Starting off in the doubles round, Tom Kruse and Daniel Izadifar clinched their set with a score of 6-3. Both players are the reigning WAC Doubles Team of the Week from their performances at Illinois last weekend.
Heading into the singles play, Stride, Hunter Clark and Neil O’Connor would finish complete the sweep for UMKC in the No. 3 through No. 5 spots. O’Connor would clinch the first win of the season for the Roos with set scores of 6-3, 6-2.
“An awesome match from all the guys today,” stated assistant head coach David Heckler. “They had great energy in the doubles, got the doubles point, and carried over our energy well into singles. Hunter and Ben stepped up and won their matches quickly to put us out to a 3-0 lead, and Neil in his first dual match as a Roo closed out and clinched the final point for us”
Up Next: UMKC will head back North to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face off with Coe College on Thursday, Feb. 14th at 4 p.m. CT.
