KANSAS CITY, Mo.--The UMKC women’s basketball team (3-6) will look to continue its winning ways this weekend against Loyola-Chicago on Sunday, Dec. 16th at 12 p.m. CT.

About the Roos - Finishing last week with a 1-1 record, the Roos have played lights out on the offensive of end thanks to lead guard Ericka Mattnigly. Mattngly posted 20 points or more for the sixth time this past week with two of those performances coming at Missouri on Thursday and vs. UMSL on Sunday. The team will look to play upset when they arrive on Sunday morning for a showdown in Chicago, Ill.

Mattingly Continues to Roll - Junior guard Ericka Mattingly (Wichita, Kan.) keeps climbing the leaderboards as she recorded another 20 point game against Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, marking the sixth time in nine games she has reached this spot. Mattingly’s stat line for the 2018-2019 season consists of averages of 17.7 points, 6.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds and a 78.3 percentage on free throw attmepts. The Junior College All-American still stands high amongst the other prolific scoring guards in the WAC, as she is now tied for first in points (17.7) and remains first in assists (6.4) and steals (2.8). Mattingly was recently named WAC Player of the Week for her performances through Nov. 26-Dec. 2

WAC Standings - As a team, UMKC sits second in points (71.8) while garnering a spot at fourth in rebounding (38.6) and second in three-point field goal percentage (32.8)

Ivory Spraying Beyond the Arc - Freshman guard Emily Ivory (Davenport, Iowa) keeps scorching opposing teams from the three-point land. The Davenport, Iowa native nailed two threes on Sunday afternoon against Missouri-St. Louis, upping her total to 19 made threes on the 2018-2019 season. Ivory is now averaging a team-best 35.8 percent behind the arc, moving up to fifth in the WAC

Preparing for the Ramblers - Entering Sunday’s contest with a 6-3 record thus far, Loyola-Chicago has won four of its last five outings, which includes victories over Chicago State and SIUE. The Ramblers are led by sophomore guards Ellie Rice and Abby O’Connor, who have combined for 24.6 points per game on the year. Defensively, Loyola-Chicago has held opponents to an average of 59.2 points per game in 2018, second best in the Missouri Valley Conference standings

Vigil Making a Name For Herself - Freshman forward Leilah Vigil (Montbello, Colo.) remains a physical presence in the post for UMKC in 2018. The Montbello, Colo., native recorded her third double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds) of the year in the win against UMSL on Sunday. In regards to rebounding, Vigil remains fifth in rebounds per game (8.4) in the WAC while moving up to second in field goal percentage (55.1) after Sunday’s route at home.

Spotlight Player - Freshman guard Brooke Hampel (Huntsville, Ala.) has been efficient all year for UMKC, as she ranks third in the WAC conference in field goal percentage (54.0). Hampel is averaging 9.0 points, 3.4rebounds and 1.0 assists per game on the 2018-2019 season. In Sunday’s win against the Tritons, Hampel recorded 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting

Last Season - In 2017-18, the Roos finished 11-19 overall and 7-7 in WAC play.  On the season, UMKC picked up key WAC victories with an overtime win over Grand Canyon and sweeping the season series between UTRGV and Chicago State.

Checking off a Career Milestone - Having joined the 1000 point club last Thursday, senior forward Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.) now turns her focus to another milestone as she is 8 rebounds away from achieving 500 total rebounds for her illustrious career. Moore would be 14th on the all time rebounding list if she grabs her 500th rebound this weekend. So far in 2018, Moore has averaged 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists for the Roos.
