KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams return to a familiar site this Friday in Peoria, Ill., to compete in the NCAA Midwest XC Regionals at the Newman Golf Course.
Placing third and fourth respectively for both squads at the WAC Championships from the previous weeks, the Roos will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships next week with a quality performance on Friday.
Friday’s meet will be a packed house, making every run even more crucial for a chance to advance into next week’s final race of the 2018 season.
Starting with the women’s squad, the team will return everyone from the WAC Championship race which will include senior runner Mia Jerman (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.), Katie Hanners (Jackson, Mo.), Halley Dean (Shawnee, Kan.), Claire Fuhlhage, Caroline Meyers, Sommer Herner and Sarah Jaloma.
Jerman, a First Team All-WAC Selection and Hanners, a Second Team All-WAC Selection, will be heavily relied on for Friday’s 6K race to put UMKC in a quality spot ahead of a possible invite to the NCAA Championships next week.
For the men, the team this week at Peoria, Ill., will consist of Daylan Quinn (Mountain View, Mo.), Marcus Johnson (Nixa, Mo.), Ryan Parson (Farmington, Mo.), Max Selbach, Maury Miller, Walker Miller, Josh Sanders (Maryville, Mo.), Lachlan Moore (Nixa, Mo.) and Josh Sanders.
Johnson, Parson and Selbach all received Second Team All-WAC Selections after the WAC Championship race in Seattle, Wash. Head coach Shameika McField will rely on these three runners to put UMKC in a good position to advance when the race at Newman Golf Course ends this weekend.
The men’s team will compete in a 10K meet at Noon CT, while the women’s team will embark on a 6K race that will begin at 11 a.m. CT.
