LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The UMKC women’s golf team ended their stay at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club this week with a 12th place finish at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
A number of schools filled up the leaderboard in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. this week, with UTEP pulling out a victory on the final day of tournament, finishing at -2 on the course. Even though the competition was stiff, there were a ton of positives to take away from for the Roos and their efforts on the greens.
In regards quality performances from this week, freshman player Theresa de Bochdanovits (Kist, Germany) cemented herself as the top player for head coach Brianna Broderick’s team, striking a score of 213 (-3) this week, which is a career best during her short time at UMKC.
Bochdanovits has now finished a top the leaderboards in back-to-back tournaments for the Roos, showing everyone in the WAC Conference just how bright the future is in UMKC golf. In regards to the FIU leaderboard, Bochdanovits finished in fourth place out of the 78 players who participated in the Pat Bradley Invitational, marking a season high for her as well.
“Theresa was phenomenal,” stated Broderick. “Her consistency goes unmatched by anyone and it was exciting to see her play well and have fun doing so.”
Reeling in second place for the lineup this week is senior player Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia), who delivered a nice testament at Lakewood Ranch Country Club with a 229 (+13) scorecard. Diaz’s best round came in round two, where she ended Monday evening with a score of 73. It was a big round for Diaz as she finished round one with a score of 81, but fired back to gain some ground heading into round three.
“It was nice to see Cynthia bounce back after round one,” commented Broderick. “The resiliency she has shown will serve our young team as we compete next week and into the spring.”
Bouncing back to form this week was sophomore player Caroline Klemp, who completed the week with a score of 231 (+15). It was a nice touch for a Roos team looking to climb the leaderboards and end the season strong.
As a whole, UMKC finshed in the middle of the pack in birdies (12) and pars (56). When playing on par five courses, the Roos ended the tournament with an even score Tuesday evening.
“Each of these ladies had some adversity throughout their rounds, but they never gave in and worked hard to fight for a score that could benefit the team overall,” stated Broderick.
With the completion of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, the Roos will now head to the Little Rock Women’s Classic that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 28th and conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 30th in Hot Springs Village, Ark.
