KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s golf team finished third in the Pepsi Cola Invitational after posting rounds of 289-290-293, +8 at Red Hawk Golf Club in Las Cruces, N.M.
Paul Foulquie notched the lowest score for the Roos in the event, finishing in a tie for seventh at +1. Foulquie started slow in round one, playing the front nine birdie-free at +2, but quickly rebounded to play the back nine bogey-free with four birdies en route to a 70. He followed with a two-birdie 73 in round two before closing out the tournament with two more birdies in round three for a 74.
No. 96 McCain Schellhardt and Taylor Larsen also notched top-10 results, as the duo tied for ninth at +2. Schellhardt opened with a 74 highlighted by a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 8 and finished day one with a 73 that saw him card birdies on Nos. 6 and 8. Schellhardt then wrapped-up the event with a final round 71 that featured two straight birdies on Nos. 15-16.
For Larsen, he began the tournament with a pair of 73’s on day one, carding seven total birdies, including two each on Nos. 8 and 14. He then added a final round 72 with three birdies, including his third on No. 14.
Daniel Gaspar, meanwhile, finished one shot back at +3 in a tie for 11th. Gaspar opened with a 72 in round one that included a pair of birdies before adding three more in round two for a 71. In round three, he added three more birdies with two coming back-to-back on Nos. 14-15.
Francois Lagraulet, meanwhile, rounded out the UMKC lineup, tying for 44th at +14 (78-76-76) with seven birdies in the event.
Playing as an individual, Raphael Lapierre-Messier tied for 22nd at +8 (72-74-78). In his opening round, he posted four birdies, including registering back-to-back on Nos. 4-5, and followed it up with three more birdies in round two, while also tallying an eagle on the par-five No. 15. In the final round, meanwhile, he added a final birdie, again on No. 15, as he played the hole at -4 for the weekend.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Oct. 28-30 when they head to Hawaii for the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational.
