OREM. Utah – Playing against one of the best opponents in the WAC conference this season, the UMKC men’s soccer team fell to Utah Valley with a score of 2-0.
It was a relatively slow first period for both teams in regards to shots on goal, but the offensive units would pick up their pace with around 10 minutes to go in the half. In the 38th minute of play, UMKC would allow a goal from defender Samuel Krommenhoek after he was set up by his teammate Zach Mass. The goal would be Krommenhoek’s first of the season for the Wolverines.
Moving into the second half, Utah Valley would kick into gear with five more shots on the Roos’ defense. As the shots kept coming, so would another goal for the Wolverines, as Alec Felix would send a dagger through the back of the net in the 75th minute, making the score 2-0 for Utah Valley.
It was another stellar performance for junior goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) who faced five shots on goal and three saves to go with the stat sheet.
UMKC had a difficult time finding shots all night as Utah Valley displayed grittiness and toughness when it came to keeping the ball outside the box for majority of the match. Scoring no goals in Orem, Utah on Saturday night, UMKC has now been shutout for the sixth time this season.
“We played well against a quality opponent in Utah Valley and are pleased with the players effort”, stated head coach Rick Benben. “The guys are improving and we look forward to getting back home for next weekend.”
With the match in Orem, Utah completed, the Roos will arrive back in Kansas City for a two-game home stand starting with UNLV on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. CT.
