UMKC Charges To 3rd At Jackrabbit Invitational

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s golf team tied for third in the Jackrabbit Invitational after posting rounds of 298-280-283, +10 at The Prairie Club Dunes course in Valentine, Neb.

McCain Schellhardt paced the Roos in the event, tying for fourth at -3.  Schellhardt opened the event with a pair of 73’s in the first two rounds, carding two birdies in round one and four more in round two.  Schellhardt then turned up the heat in round three, shooting a 67 that tied for the tournament low.  In the round, Schellhardt opened with a bogey, but rebounded with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 and one more on No. 7.  On the back nine, he birdied No. 10 and, after a bogey on No. 11, recorded three straight birdies on Nos. 13-15, giving him seven in the round.

Recording the Roos second top-10 finish was Paul Foulquie, who tied for 10th at even par.  Foulquie began the tourney with a 74 that included two back nine birdies, before back-to-back 71’s to close the event.  In round two, he notched back-to-back birdies on Nos. 3-4, while also adding an eagle on the par five No. 10.  In the final round, he notched one birdie on the front nine, No. 9, before notching five more on the back nine, giving him six over his final 10 holes.

Francois Lagraulet and Taylor Larson, meanwhile, tied for 31st at +7.  Lagraulet began the tournament with a first round 76 with a trio of birdies, before a 75 in round two that featured a solo birdie on the par five No. 6.  Lagraulet then closed out the contest with a four birdie final round, including three on the front nine, 72.

For Larson, he opened the event with rounds of 75 and 74, notching two birdies in each of the two rounds, while his final round 74 included a lone birdie on No. 6.

Daniel Gaspar rounded out the UMKC lineup in 38th at +10.  In the opening round, Gaspar notched three birdies for a 76, while matching the total in round two with three more birdies, including his second straight on No. 15, en route to a 77.  His final round 73 followed with his third straight round with three birdies, including registering back-to-back on Nos. 2-3.

Playing as an individual, Raphael Lapierre-Messier finished in 71st at +33.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Oct. 20-21, when they take part in the Red Hawk Invitational at the Red Hawk Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
