UMKC Heads North For Omaha Classic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball hits the road for the first time in 2018 when it heads to Omaha, Neb., for the Omaha Classic on Aug. 31-Sep. 1.

UMKC Tournament Schedule
Friday, Aug. 31
12:30 p.m. – at Omaha
5 p.m. – vs. UTEP

Saturday, Sep. 1
1 p.m. – vs. UIC

About the Roos
UMKC comes into the tournament with a 2-1 mark after knocking off South Dakota State and Western Michigan last weekend, while falling 3-2 to Austin Peay.  For their efforts, Tyrecia Lukes and Rhegan Spiegel were each named to the all-tournament team.  Lukes, meanwhile, sits ninth in the country in hitting percentage and her hitting percentage against Western Michigan is the highest mark in the NCAA this season.

About the Opponents
Omaha enters the tournament with an 0-3 mark in the early going.  The Mavericks opened the New Orleans Invitational with a 3-1 loss to New Orleans, before falling 3-0 to both Murray State and Houston.

The Miners come into the tournament with a 1-2 record through the opening weekend.  UTEP opened with a 3-1 win over Incarnate Word before falling to host Tulane and Louisiana.

The Flames come into the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record after hosting the UIC Invitational on opening weekend.  UIC scored a trio of 3-0 victories, taking down Bryant, UMES, and Central Michigan.

Up Next
The Blue & Gold return to Kansas City for the Kangaroo Classic for matches on Sep. 6-8 at the Swinney Recreation Center.
