KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams head back to Rim Rock Farm, located in Lawrence, Kan., to begin their 2018 season and compete in the Bob Timmons Dual Classic this Saturday.

Being led by head coach Shameika McField and assistant coach Brett Guemmer, the Roos are embracing the challenge that this weekend brings to both teams.

“We have everything to gain and nothing to lose”, McField stated. “Our upperclassmen usually embrace Rim Rock because it’s one of the toughest courses we compete in.” “While we will have some fresh faces to the course, competing at a smaller scale cross country meet will be just right for the newcomers trying to get adjusted.”

Senior Marcus Johnson (Nixa, Mo.) and junior Darrien Case (Parkville, Mo.) bring experience to UMKC team that welcomes five freshmen to the men’s team. The women’s group will rely on junior Halley Dean (Shawnee, Kan.) and senior Mia Jerman (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) to take the reins this weekend at Rim Rock Farm.

The competition this weekend will be the start to redeeming conference glory, as the men’s team won the WAC Championship last season and the women’s team placed third overall.

Start times for both meets will be at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m C.T.
