KANSAS CITY – The UMKC men’s soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion to SIUE on Tuesday night, falling to a score of 1-0.

With the feeling of overtime coming into fruition, SIUE midfielder Jorge Gonzalez connected on a crossing pattern in the 89th minute to take down the Roos chances in hopes of a fresh start in extra time.

Offensively, the Roos could not get anything going as their first shot came in the 61st minute. UMKC ended up with three shots on goal the entire night of play.

As the game progressed, frustration started to set in as UMKC was hit with three yellow cards for the match. Junior goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) did all he could to muster out a win for the Roos, as he tallied nine saves on the night from the onslaught attack SIUE displayed. The Cougars had 15 shots in the match, making it a busy night for the UMKC defensive unit as a whole.

UMKC Head Coach Rick Benben gave some final thoughts after the conclusion of the match.

“Hard fought game tonight”, Benben stated. “We played well in the second half and while disappointed with the result, we are certainly pleased with the effort and are looking forward to Friday.”

The Roos will have a two day break before facing Oral Roberts at home this Friday, Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. C.T.
