UMKC Takes Down Saint Louis in Final Road Match

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s tennis team (13-9) picked up a 6-1 win on Saturday afternoon over Saint Louis (7-12) at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O’Fallon, Ill.

In doubles play, the Roos fell behind early when Melinda Johnson and Yana Grechkina fell to Cassie McKenzie and Mariluz Rojo, 6-3 at No. 1 

UMKC would rebound though, as Grace Ball and Aliona Ladutska beat Ariana Rodriguez and Alba Salina, 6-2 at No. 2 and Katie Fries and Thanushree Vale took down Gabriella Papachrisanthou and Alana Bourgeois, 6-3 at No. 3 to clinch the point.

Ladutska made it 2-0 when she beat McKenzie 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 and Ball followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Papachrisanthou.  Grechkina then clinched the point for UMKC with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bourgeois at No. 4.

Johnson added a 6-1, 7-5 win over Rodriguez at No. 3, while Fries added the sixth UMKC point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rojo at No. 2.

At No. 5, meanwhile, Vale dropped her match with Salinas, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Sunday when they host Northern Iowa at 10 a.m. on Senior Day.
