KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s tennis team (9-9, 1-1) picked up a 7-0 win over Seattle U (6-10, 0-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Orville Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, Texas.
In doubles action, Katie Fries and Ioanna Lathouri picked up the first win with a 6-1 victory over Kali McCollister and Lily-Ana Kreutzer at No. 3 and Aliona Ladutska and Grace Ball followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 over Hannah Gianan and Kyra Jung. Seattle would claim the final doubles match with a 7-6 (7-5) win by Michelle Lui and Kelli Woodman over Melinda Johnson and Yana Grechkina.
In singles play, Fries made it 2-0 when she beat Gianan, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and Ball followed by beating Kreutzer, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
Johnson then picked up the clinching point when she took down Jung, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Roos fifth point came from No. 1 where Ladutska beat Lui, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7, while Grechkina won over Woodman, 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 at No. 4.
UMKC’s final point came from Thanushree Vale when she defeated McCollister 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow when they wrap-up their first WAC cluster with a 4 p.m. CT match with Chicago State.
