EMPORIA, Kan. – The UMKC track & field teams opened up the outdoor season when they took part in the ESU Spring Twilight Invitational at the Zola Witten Track in Frank Welch Stadium.

Mia Jerman led the Roos on the day, picking up a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:29.40, the fourth best mark in school history, while on the men’s side, Daylan Quinn claimed victory in the event with a mark of 9:41.68.

In the 1,500-meter run, Darrien Case finished second with a time of 4:06.74 and on the women’s side, Katherine Hanners also posted a second place result with a time of 4:52.19, Elizabeth Nolke finished fifth at 4:55.61 and Sarah Jaloma placed eighth with a time of 5:10.25.

In the pole vault, Luke Woodall’s mark of 4.30m was good for 10th and third in school history, while Mara Meneely notched a height of 3.10m good for seventh in the event and third all-time at UMKC.

Carter Grissom, meanwhile, recorded the fourth best javelin throw in school history at 58.32m, placing 12th and Alexa Pint finished sixth after a throw of 39.90m, the third best mark in the school.

Rachel Culberson led the women in the 800-meter run with a fourth place finish in a time of 2:23.61 and for the men, Jackson Barbour placed sixth at 1:59.42.

In the long jump, Jamarice Preston (8th – 6.70m) and Zane Lockhart (10th – 6.70m) each registered top-10 results for the men and Traci Mills (7th – 5.64m) and Jayla Riggins (10th – 5.53m) did likewise for the women.

In the high jump, David Chappelle placed fifth with a jump of 1.90m and in women’s triple jump, Shermane Foster placed fourth (11.21m) and Carolyn Ross came in seventh (10.85m).

Rebecca Finley’s toss of 44.87m was good for second in the discus, her throw of 42.74m was good for sixth in the hammer and her toss of 12.09m placed her eighth in the shot put, while Jacob Hockman placed fifth in the discus at 47.91m, seventh in the shot put at 14.38m and eighth in the hammer at 46.73m and Perry Adderley placed third in the shot put at 15.28m.

In the relays, the women’s 4x400 team of Louisa Nylander, Culberson, Genel Rollins and Carolyn Ross claimed the title in a time of 3:55.40, while the Roos second team of Gabriel Foster, Lillian Schnakenberg, Chesney Walker and Foster placed fourth in a time of 4:15.13.

For the men, the Roos finished third and fourth in times of 3:21.90 and 3:23.48.  UMKC’s A team consisted of Traezon Henderson, Preston, Barbour and Jaquez Perry and the B team included Eric Yarbrough, Chadayne Walker, Case and Josh Sanders.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 31 when they head to Tulsa, Okla., for the ORU Invitational.
