LAWRENCE, Kan. – The UMKC softball team (4-13) allowed an eight-run second inning to Tulsa (12-8) on Friday night and were unable to close the gap in a 12-1 loss on in the Jayhawk Invitational.
UMKC threatened early on, putting two runners in scoring position with just one out in the top of the first but were unable to cash in on the opportunity. After a scoreless top half of the first, senior pitcher Sara Miller (Marietta, Ga.) ran into major trouble in the second in allowing eight runs on six hits, including a pair of errors, in the frame.
The Roos were unable trim the deficit and claw their way back in as the contest drew to a close. Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) drove in the lone run of the game for the Roos with an RBI single in the top of the third.
UMKC will resume play in the Jayhawk Invitational with a pair of games tomorrow against Northern Iowa and Green Bay at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT.
