LINCOLN, Neb. – The UMKC women’s tennis team (5-8) fell by a slim 4-3, margin on Saturday afternoon to Illinois State at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
In doubles play, Ioanna Lathouri and Katie Fries picked up a 6-1 win from the No. 3 spot, but Illinois State claimed the point as Melinda Johnson and Aliona Ladutska fell at No. 1, 6-2 and Thanushree Vale and Grace Ball went down 6-1 at No. 2.
In singles play, ISU went up 2-0 when Vale fell at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0, but Fries cut the lead in half with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Illinois State pushed the lead back to two when Lathouri fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6, but a 6-4, 6-2 win from Ladutska at No. 1 made the score 3-2.
The Redbirds, though, would clinch the match when Ball fell 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, while Johnson gave the Roos their third point with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action on Friday when they take on Northwest Missouri State.
