KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s golf team opened up the 2018 spring season with a 14th place finish in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz., at the Rio Verde Country Club.
In the event, the Roos finished the three-day event at 947 after rounds of 323, 317 and 307.
“This tournament was not our best event, but we continued to improve each round,” Head Coach Brianna Broderick said. “We are ready to get back to work as we put this event behind us and prepare for the rest of our spring season.”
Cynthia Diaz led the Roos in the event with a 34th place finish at +16 with a pair of birdies in each of the first two rounds and a fifth on the final day of play.
Chandler Gallagher and Maria Henao, meanwhile, finished back-to-back in 52nd and 53rd at +21 and +22, respectively. Gallagher opened the event with a pair of birdies in each of the first two rounds, but came back with three birdies in the final round, while Henao tallied a birdie in each of the first two rounds.
Celine Lim was the Roos next highest finisher, placing in 63rd at +24 with a trio of birdies in the event and Cyrielle Kern rounded out the UMKC lineup with an 86th place result at +38 after a three birdie first round and a two birdie second round.
Playing as an individual, Victoria Pavlik finished in 89th at +40 after rounds of 88-86-82, carding her lone birdie on the par-4 11th.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 12-13 when they head to Dallas, Texas, for the Bradley Spring Break Invitational.
