MERRIAM, Kan. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (3-5) picked up its third win of the season when it beat former conference rival Oral Roberts (3-4) 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Kansas City Racquet Club.

In doubles play, Airam Castellano and Alex Pozo teamed to beat Barnabas Koncz and Jan Pehnec, 6-2 at No. 1 and at No. 2, Diego Giraldo and Tom Kruse took down Marcello Moreira and Eddy Leardini, 6-3.  At No. 3, meanwhile, Hunter Clark and Anil Patel fell to Kenneth Boykin and Alvaro Santamaria, 6-1.

In singles play, Castellano took care of Boykin by a score of 7-6, 7-5, while at No. 2, Pozo beat Koncz 6-4, 6-1.

From the No. 3 spot, Kruse picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win over Pehnec and at No. 4, Giraldo beat Santamaria 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

The Roos final point came from the No. 6 spot where Clark beat Leardini, 6-1, 6-3, while at No. 5 Daniel Izadifar fell to Moreira, 6-4, 6-4.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 4 when they head to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on Arkansas.
