MERIAM, Kan. – The UMKC women’s tennis team (5-4) picked up a 4-3 win over South Dakota (2-6) on Saturday afternoon at the Kansas City Racquet Club.

The Roos opened the match by claiming the doubles point, picking up victories in two of the three contests to go ahead 1-0.

Yana Grechkina pushed the lead to 2-0 with a victory at the No. 4 spot after the Coyote’s Luana Stanciu went down with an injury, while Melinda Johnson made it 3-0 after taking down Habiba Aly, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3.

The Coyotes got on the board at No. 2 as Barbora Kollarova defeated Katie Fries, 6-3, 6-3, but Aliona Ladutska clinched the match for the Roos with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 victory over Jana Lazarevic at No. 1.

At No. 5, Thanushree Vale fell to Anastasiia Bondarenko, 7-5, 6-4 and at No. 6, Grace Ball went down to Nanette Nylund, 6-2, 6-2.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again next Saturday when they face Akron at 2 p.m. CT.
