KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC track and field team closed out the indoor regular season on Friday at the Nebraska Tune-up in Lincoln, Neb., at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
In the meet, three Roos etched their names into the UMKC record books with top-five all-time results. Mia Jerman paced the Roos, winning the 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:02.91, the fourth best mark in school history. Daylan Quinn, meanwhile, finished second in the mile with a time of 4:12.25, a new personal best and the fifth best time in school history, while in the 600 meter run Josh Sanders notched the fourth best time in school history at 1:25.52, good for eighth in the event.
On the women’s side, Jayla Riggs added a fourth place result in the long jump with a mark of 5.05 meters, Elizabeth Nolke placed sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2.16.96 and Genel Rollins finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.31.
On the men’s side, Christopher Bryan finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.10, Fred Boyd, Jr. placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.28, Lukas Van der Watt placed eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.95 meters, Chadayne Walker placed eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.41 and Shammawi Wellington placed ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.03. Wellington also added a personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.86 to place 15th.
In the jumps, Leyla Edwards finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.59 meters, a new personal best, and narrowly missed a top-10 finish in the long jump, coming in 11th with a jump of 5.16 meters. Fellow jumper Shermane Foster finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.76 meters and Blessing Oparaji came in ninth in the long jump with a jump of 5.28 in the long jump, while also finishing 14th in the 60 meter dash at 7.91.
Also, tallying top-15 finishes on the women’s side included Katherine Hanners in the mile with a 12th place finish and a time of 5:14.98, a new personal best, Christy Nell in the pole vault with a 13th place finish with a mark of 3.48 meters, Louisa Nylander placing 13th in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 25.96 and T’Keyah Thompson placing right behind in 14th with a time of 26.02. Darrien Case, meanwhile for the men, finished 14th in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.04 and in the long jump, Jeremy Harr also placed 14th with a jump of 6.38 meters.
Overall, the Roos notched 18 season bests and 13 personal bests.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Feb. 22-24 when they head to Nampa, Idaho for the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
