LINCOLN, Neb. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (2-4) fell in its road contest at the Dillon Tennis Center against Nebraska (6-0) despite a 6-3, 6-2 win from Diego Giraldo from the No. 4 singles spot.

Nebraska went ahead 1-0 in the match, as Giraldo and Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) lost 6-4 to Dylan Bednarczyk and Micah Klousia at No. 2 doubles and Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) and Alex Pozo (St. Louis, Mo.) fell at No. 1 to Toby Boyer and Linus Erhart, 6-1.  No. 3 Hunter Clark (Overland Park, Kan.) and Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) were trailing to William Grattan-Smith and Isaac Nortey when the point was won.

In singles play, Izadifar went down to Grattan-Smith, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Kruse fell at No. 3 to Erhart, 6-2, 6-2.  After Giraldo’s win at No. 3, Clark lost at No. 6 to Chris Dean, 6-3, 6-0 to end the match.

At No. 1, Castellano was trailing Boyer 6-4, 5-4 and at No. 2, Pozo was up on Bednarczyk 6-3, 3-3 when the match was finished.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on February 18 when they head to Wichita, Kan., to take on Wichita State at 12 p.m. CT.
