OMAHA, Neb. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (2-3) knocked-off Creighton (1-4), 4-3 at the Hansom Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Creighton struck first in the match, taking the doubles point despite a 7-6 (8-6) win from the Roos No. 1 doubles team of Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) and Alex Pozo (St. Louis) over Alex Koca and Stratton Brown.
At No. 2, Diego Giraldo and Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) lost 6-4 to Mac Mease and Daniel Lopez-Rey and at No. 3 Hunter Clark (Overland Park, Kan.) and Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) fell 6-4 to Brooks Kendall and Armando Gandini.
Kruse quickly evened the match in singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Gandini and Pozo gave the Roos their first lead at 2-1 with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2 over Brown.
Castellano made it 3-1 in favor of the Roos with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 over Kendall, while Giraldo clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-7 (7-9), 6-1 win from the No. 4 line over Koca.
At No. 5, meanwhile, Lopez-Rey took down Izadifar, 7-5, 6-1 and at No. 6, Clark fell to Jose Oscar Diaz, 6-1, 6-1.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Saturday when they head to Lincoln, Neb., for a 7 p.m. CT contest with Nebraska.
