WICHITA, Kan. – The UMKC men’s and women’s track and field teams will continue the 2018 indoor slate at the Herm Wilson Invitational, hosted by Wichita State, this weekend.
Competition for the Roos will begin on Friday at 12 p.m. CT, as Zane Lockhart (Plattsmouth, Neb.) will begin the heptathlon. Four events – 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump – await the senior, before he will wrap up the event on Saturday.
A total of 16 men and 17 women will represent UMKC in 10 and 11 events, respectively, on Saturday. On the women’s side, Leyla Edwards (Lee’s Summit, Mo.), Daiwa Emmert (Bolivar, Mo.), Blessing Oparaji (St. Louis, Mo.) and Carolyn Ross (St. Louis, Mo.), will be the busiest Roos as they will battle in three individual events apiece. Aside from Lockhart, Christopher Bryan (St. Catherine, Jamaica) will compete in the most events for the men, looking to improve in three individual events.
After the Herm Wilson Invitational, UMKC will have two more opportunities to gear up for the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships that are set to be held in Boise, Idaho, on Feb. 22-24.
