KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s soccer team will open a two-game home set on Saturday when Western Illinois visits Durwood Soccer Stadium. Kickoff between the Roos and the Leathernecks is slated for 7 p.m. CT.

About the Roos
The 2017 season marks the 20th under the direction of Rick Benben. UMKC boasts a 34-24-6 (.578) record at its home facility and will play the most home matches in a single season at Durwood Soccer Stadium, hosting 11 opponents this season.
UMKC is the only team in the Western Athletic Conference to remain undefeated in the 2017 campaign, giving up only three goals on the year.
The Roos traveled north to Milwaukee on Tuesday for their first midweek matchup of the season, battling to a 2-2 double overtime draw against the Panthers. UMKC’s three draws so far this year is just one shy of tying the most in a single season by the program.
Starting goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) earned WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 4 after making a season-high seven saves en route to his third consecutive shutout against Rutgers (Sept. 3), which currently ranks in a tie for the sixth-most in a single season by a Roo in UMKC program history.
Senior Eric McWoods (St. Louis, Mo.) was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28 after finishing the two game series against Central Arkansas and Northwestern with eight shots, two goals, two assists and a conference-leading six points.
The Roos 2-0 victory over Northwestern (Aug. 27) marked the first time that the program has captured a win over a Big Ten opponent in school history.
About the Leathernecks
Western Illinois will close its six-game road swing at UMKC on Saturday. The Leathernecks are 1-4 overall, most recently falling to Bowling Green, 2-0. Fernando Pacheco leads the team and ranks third in the Summit League with three goals on the season thus far. Drew Whalen's two goals are tied for fourth in the league. Pacheco also has a team-high seven shots on goal and a 0.333 shots on goal percentage. As a team, Western Illinois averages 9.2 shots per game compared to the opponents' 14.0. Opponents also hold a 20-16 corner kicks advantage this season, but the Leathernecks are 2-for-2 on penalty kicks thus far.
UMKC will wrap up its two-game home stand on Tuesday against Missouri State (Sept. 19), before closing the nonconference portion of its schedule at Drake (Sept. 23). The Roos home game against the Bears will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network.
