KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s basketball program will host its fifth annual Roos Basketball Tip-Off Dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 17, head coach Kareem Richardson announced Thursday. The event will be held at the College Basketball Experience inside the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame at the Sprint Center in downtown Kansas City. It will feature a keynote address from Bruce Weber, the head men’s basketball coach of the Kansas State Wildcats.
“Our Tip-Off Dinner is an exciting opportunity to meet our current team and help us kick off the season,” Richardson shared. “We are also honored to have Coach Weber as our guest speaker. The dinner not only allows attendees an opportunity to get to know our team, but it is also a great way to support the men’s basketball program here at UMKC.”
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, followed by the program and dinner. Richardson will speak at the event, while guests will have the opportunity to meet the entire 15-man squad and be a part of the excitement as the 2017-18 team captains are announced.
UMKC made its first postseason appearance in the program’s 30-year Division I history in 2017, as the Roos defeated Green Bay on March 15 to advance to the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
The 2017-18 slate features contests with four 2017 NCAA Tournament teams in Wichita State, Kansas State, South Dakota State and conference foe New Mexico State, as well as three programs – UT-Martin, South Dakota and CSU Bakersfield – that received bids to postseason tournaments.
