MARYVILLE, Mo. – UMKC women’s tennis (11-8) dominated Northwest Missouri State (7-12) 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Frank Grube Tennis Courts. The Roos won five singles matches and earned the doubles point.
Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) won 6-2, 6-0 over Aniek Kolen in No. 1 singles. Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) won her 10th consecutive singles match, beating Luiza Souza 7-5, 6-1 in No. 3 play. Katie Fries (Overland Park, Kan.) defeated Tess Lovig in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Thanushree Vale (Chennai, India) beat Vilune Sestokaite 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in the No. 5 match. Marina Albert (Thebes, Egypt) won 6-3, 7-5 over Andrea Gallardo in the No. 6 contest. Mariam Kurasbediani (Tbilsi, Georgia) fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 against Tania Teruel on the No. 2 court.
In doubles play, Ladutska and Grechkina beat Souza and Tereul 6-3 in the No. 1 match. Kurasbediani and Albert clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory over Kolen and Lorena Rivas Jarolim on the No. 2 court. The Roos only fielded two doubles tandems.
UMKC closes the regular season with Senior Day Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m. CT at the Plaza Tennis Center. The Western Athletic Conference Tournament is April 28-30 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
