Roos in 4th, Black in 3rd After First 2 Rounds of KC Shootout

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s golf is in fourth place out of 10 teams following the first two rounds of the Kansas City Shootout at Shoal Creek Golf Course. Mackenzie Black (Independence, Iowa) is tied for third place individually after shooting 6-over par on a windy day. Collectively, the Roos are 40-over after shooting 319 and 307 through the first 36 holes.

Black shot an even par 72 in the first round with five birdies. She added two more birdies in the second round and finished at 78 (+6). Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) is tied for seventh individually at 10-over after shooting 81 (+9) and 73 (+2). She notched two birdies in the opening round and three in the second with all coming in a 5-hole stretch on the back nine. Maria Henao (Pereira, Colombia) is tied for 19th after carding an 80 (+8) and 79 (+7) while competing individually.

Abbey Campbell (Garden City, Kan.) is tied for 28th after shooting 84 (+12) and 77 (+5). Victoria Origel (Irapuato, Mexico) shot 83 (+11) and 80 (+8) and Celine Lim (Shah Alam, Malaysia) shot 83 (+11) and 81 (+9) as both are competing as individuals. Chandler Gallagher (Kansas City, Mo.) carded an 82 (+10) and an 83 (+11). Cyrielle Kern (Cuvry, France) notched an 86 (+14) and 79 (+7).

Northern Illinois and Wichita State are tied for the lead in the team standings at 40-over par. South Dakota State is three shots back. Wichita’s Taryn Torgerson leads individually at 3-over par. South Dakota’s Brenna Lervick is two shots back while Black and SDSU’s Teresa Toscano are three strokes behind.

Tuesday’s final round begins with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. The Roos will begin on holes 6-9.
