SEATTLE, Wash. – UMKC men’s tennis (9-8, 3-2) earned a 5-2 victory over Chicago State (7-13, 1-3) on Sunday morning at Seattle U. The Roos won four singles matches and claimed the doubles point.  

Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) improved to 11-6 on the season and 3-2 in the WAC with a 6-2, 7-6 victory on the No. 1 court over Jiri Nouza. Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) beat Rohan Wattley in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. He is now 8-8 during his freshman season. Mike Psarros (Athens, Greece) went to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the WAC with a 1-6, 6-4 6-4 win against Christian Gonzalez in No. 5 action. Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) rounded out the singles victories by cruising past Cody Wurzelbacher in the No. 6 match, 6-3, 6-0. He is now 3-3 during the spring slate.

Uldis Gaismins (Riga, Latvia) fell 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 to Felix Savard in No. 2 singles play. Amaury Navette (Paris, France) was beaten 6-7, 6-3, 10-5 by Gonzalo Martinez in the No. 3 match.

In doubles, Castellano and Psarros improved to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in WAC play on the No. 1 doubles court with a 6-4 win over Nouza and Savard. The duo has won six consecutive matches. Kruse and Vinh Pham (Lenexa, Kan.) beat Wattley and Wurzelbacher by the same score in the No. 3 contest. Gaismins and Navette fell to Gonzalez and Martinez by the same margin.

UMKC returns to the court to host Creighton Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT from the Plaza Tennis Center.
