KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite falling to Missouri State (7-7), 8-0, the UMKC softball team (4-14) added three student-athletes to the 2017 We Back Pat All-Tournament Team on Sunday afternoon.

Shortstop Morgan Byrn (Lawrence, Kan.) went 5-for-10 with 4 RBIs, one double, one home run and one stolen base for the Roos this weekend. Kendra Leach (Easton, Kan.) also batted .500 at the tournament, going 4-for-8 with an RBI and a double. Freshman Lia Lombardini (Chesterton, Ind.) pitched 9.0 innings for UMKC this weekend, allowing just two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. She also had three at-bats for the Roos.

In UMKC’s final game of the tournament, a three-run home run by MSU in the second inning gave the Bears the advantage over the Roos. An RBI single by the Bears in the third inning extended MSU’s lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, all-tournament team member Kaitlin Beason bombed a walk-off grand slam over the right field fence to give the Bears the 8-0 victory in five innings.

UMKC will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for a midweek match-up with the Razorbacks on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m. CT with the second scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
