COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UMKC women’s tennis (4-6) won the first of three matches in Colorado on Friday with a 4-3 victory over Idaho State (3-3). The Roos won four singles matches to earn the victory. Marina Albert (Thebes, Egypt) clinched the match with a 3-set victory, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 over Melissa Coburn in No. 4 singles.

Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus), Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) and Katie Fries (Overland, Park.) also earned singles victories for the Roos. Ladutska beat Hristina Cvetkovic 6-3, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. Grechkina won 6-4, 6-1 over Kristen Newell in No. 5 play. Fries bested Madison Fenske 6-2, 6-1 in No. 6 action.

Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Huibre-Mare Botes in the No. 2 match. Mariam Kurasbediani (Tbilsi, Georgia) fell 6-2, 6-3 to Louise-Mare Botes in No. 3 play.

Idaho State won both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

The Roos face Texas San Antonio at 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday and host Air Force at 1:30 p.m. CT Sunday to wrap up the weekend in the mountains.
