MARYVILLE, Mo. – UMKC men’s tennis (6-4) was defeated 6-1 by No. 12 Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday afternoon at the Frank Grube Courts. The Bearcats at the top-ranked team in the region. Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) earned the lone victory for the Roos in No. 1 singles.
Castellano defeated Romain Boissinot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Uldis Gaismins (Riga, Latvia) fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to Sergi Fontcuberta in No. 2 singles. Amaury Navette (Paris, France) was beaten 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 by Mauro Tete on the No. 3 court. Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) dropped a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) decision to Josef Altmann in No. 4 play. Vinh Pham (Lenexa, Kan.) fell to Aymeric Autones in a close No. 5 match, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8. Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) was beaten 6-2, 6-3 by Fin Glowick in the No. 6 competition.
In doubles play, Navette and Gaismins beat Tete and Jorge Serrano 6-1 in the No. 1 match. Kruse and Castellano fell 6-0 to Boissinot and Fontcuberta on the No. 2 court. Izadifar and Pham were beaten 6-3 by Altmann and Autones to seal the doubles point for the Bearcats.
The Roos return to the court on Friday, March 17 when the Roos host Wichita State at 12:30 p.m. CT.
