RIO VERDE, Ariz. – UMKC women’s golf finished third and Chandler Gallagher (Kansas City, Mo.) was the runner-up individually at the Rio Verde Invitational at the White Wing Golf Course. The Roos shot 16-over (304) in the final round. Gallagher shot 75 (+3) and finished the tournament at even par.
“Today was a hard fought day for our team,” head coach Brianna Broderick said. “We didn’t strike the ball extremely well nor did we get the result we wanted, but there were many positives that came out of our spring opener. This is a very talented team and I’m excited for what the spring season will bring.
“Chandler was a fighter today and figured out a way to score. Her 3-day total of even par and runner-up finish is certainly an accomplishment to be proud of.”
Cyrielle Kern (Cuvry, France) tied for eighth after shooting 77 (+5) in the final round. Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) tied for 15th with a 74 (+2) on Sunday. Maria Henao (Pereira, Colombia) tied for 33rd after carding a 75 (+3) and Mackenzie Black (Independence, Iowa) finished with a 78 (+6).
Eastern Michigan won the team title by four strokes. Danielle Nicholson of Akron won the individual title, finishing one stroke ahead of Gallagher.
UMKC returns to the course at the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge on March 19-21 at the RedTail Golf Course in Sorrento, Florida.
