Nashville, Tenn. – UMKC jumped out to an early lead over UMBC but could not hold on as the Roos lost 7-4 on Sunday morning.

UMKC jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when Ashlin O’Brien (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) came around to score on a double from Kendra Leach (Easton, Kan.).

O’Brien hit an RBI single to right center in the top of the second to give the Roos a 3-0 lead. UMBC responded in their half of the inning with five runs on six hits.

Sydney Garcia (Kansas City, Mo.) doubled to left center in the top of the fourth inning to bring around another run for the Roos, cutting the lead to 5-4. UMKC was not able to muster any other offense and fell 7-4 to UMBC.

Leach and Sims each went 2-3, with Leach recording two RBI’s. The Roos finished the Belmont Winter Fest Tournament 1-3.

The Roos are back in action at the Battle at the Beach in Conway, South Carolina, from Feb. 17-19.
