Roos Drop First Match of Spring at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – UMKC men’s tennis (4-1) dropped its first match of the season Saturday afternoon at Arkansas. The Roos were defeated 7-0 by the powerful SEC opponent.

In singles action, Airam Castellano fell 6-2, 6-2 to the No. 22 national player Jose Salazar. Uldis Gaismins put up a strong fight in the No. 2 match, pushing Branch Terrell to a third set tiebreaker before falling 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7). Amaury Navette dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Adam Sanjurjo on the No. 3 court. Tom Kruse was beaten 6-2, 6-1 by Oscar Mesquida in No. 4 play. Mike Psarros was bested 6-0, 6-2 in No. 5 competition against Johan den Toom. Vinh Pham fell 6-0, 6-1 to Juan Marino in the No. 6 match. Hunter Clark earned a victory in the No. 7 match.

In doubles play, Sanjurjo and Mesquida defeated Castellano and Psarros 6-1 on the No. 1 court. Terrell and den Toom beat Gaismins and Navette 6-5 (7-5) in the No. 2 matchup while Pham and Kruse fell 6-0 to Jacob Herndon and Austin Robles in the No. 3 match.

The Roos take on Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday.
