KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC (14-13, 6-4) men’s basketball has its first 4-game winning since Nov. 21 – Dec. 1, 2015 after the Roos dominated Seattle U (12-12, 4-5) 102-72 on Saturday night at Municipal Auditorium. The 30-point victory is the largest by UMKC in a conference game since joining the WAC prior to the 2013-14 season. Reigning WAC Player of the Week Kyle Steward (Detroit, Mich.) again led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Five Roos scored in double figures.

“It was a great team effort,” head coach Kareem Richardson said. “We did a good job of sharing the ball.”

Richardson earned his 50th career victory as UMKC dished out 20 assists on 31 field goals and forced 17 Redhawks turnovers. The Roos led for 39:23.

The Roos started the game on a 9-2 run before Seattle U battled back to tie the score at 11. From there, it was all UMKC, who would not relinquish the lead following a LaVell Boyd (Chicago, Ill.) 3-pointer to pull ahead 14-11 at the 15:12 mark of the first half. UMKC outscored the Redhawks 29-13 from that point on to grab a 40-24 halftime lead.

In the second half, UMKC continued to extend the lead, outscoring Seattle U 62-48 over the final 20 minutes. For the game, the Roos shot 50 percent (31-for-62) from the floor and 88 percent (29-for-33) from the foul line. UMKC also sank 11 triples.

Isaiah Ross (Davenport, Iowa) finished with 16 points, one shy of his career-high. Dashawn King (Bronx, N.Y.) posted a season-high 15 points, including a thunderous dunk in the second half. Boyd and Xavier Bishop (Springfield, Ill.) both finished with 13 points.

The Roos led by as many as 34 at 98-64 with 3:45 remaining. The 100-point output is the first in a non-overtime game by UMKC since winning 102-87 at Houston Baptist on Dec. 12, 2009.

UMKC closes the home schedule with a 5:05 p.m. tipoff vs. Chicago State on Saturday, Feb. 18 on Senior Day. The Roos women’s program begins the doubleheader with a 2 p.m. tipoff that afternoon vs. the Cougars.
