WICHITA, Kan. – UMKC had multiple event winners on day two of competition at the Herm Wilson Invitational at Wichita State on Saturday evening.
Chadayne Walker (Portmore, Jamaica) won the 60M with a time of 6.85, and Justin Martin placed third and tied his personal record with a time of 6.89. Martin also placed third in the 200M with a season best time of 22.25. Walker placed fourth in the 200M with a time of 22.58. Traci Mills (St. Louis, Mo.) placed sixth on the women’s side of the 60M with a time of 7.85.
I’m happy that I was able to drop my times down from last week but I feel there’s still work to be done,” Martin said.
UMKC had three runners place in the top-four in the 400M with Jamarice Preston (Dallas, Texas) placing first with a time of 49.92. Jaquez Perry (St. Louis, Mo.) ran a PR and placed third with a time of 50.42 and Eric Yarbrough (St. Louis, Mo.) placed fourth with a time of 50.53. Hanna Miller (Savannah, Mo.) placed third with a time of 57.95 on the women’s side. Three other Roos placed in the 400M with Kylie Conrow (Bowling Green, Mo.) placing fifth, Tia Thompson (St. Louis, Mo.) placing sixth and Tyelor Duncan (St. Louis, Mo) placing seventh.
“Today’s performance wasn’t ideal, however it’s a learning experience as we move closer to conference,” Preston said. “We just have to continue to trust the process.”
Darrien Case (Parkville, Mo.) placed second in the mile with a time of 4:17.91. Sarah Fogarty placed third in the women’s mile with a time of 5:05.30, with Elizabeth Nolke (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) placing fourth with a time of 5:06.54.
“The race certainly got out fast but with the help of my teammates and my competitors I was able to rebound and chase down a third place spot,” Fogarty said.
Mia Jerman (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) placed fourth in the women’s 3,000M with a time of 10:12.54.
In the 4x400M relay, the men’s team placed first with a time of 3:18.01 while the women’s team placed third with a time of 3:57.90.
Preston won the men’s long jump with a distance of 22’ 1.75’’. Richard Smith (Kansas City, Mo.) posted a new PR in the long jump with a distance of 21’ 6.25’’ and placed third.
Mills placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 37’ 9.25’’.
Jacob Hockman (Centralia, Mo.) placed second in the shot put and recorded a new PR of 46’ 4.25’’
“This was a great weekend for the team,” assistant coach Benaud Shirley said. “We competed hard and as a result we had some good performances. Hopefully we can use this weekend as momentum builder going forward and into our indoor championships.”
UMKC is back in action at the Pitt State Invitational on Feb. 10-11.
