MERRIAM, Kan. – UMKC men’s tennis (4-0) made quick work of Baker (Kan.) Wednesday afternoon at the Kansas City Racquet Club. The Roos won 7-0 in an efficient showing on both the singles and doubles courts.
UMKC won each singles in straight sets and took the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to claim the doubles point. The Roos have won 10 of the last 11 matches dating back to April 9, 2016.
In singles action, Airam Castellano defeated Blake Barnard, 6-1, 6-2. Uldis Gaismins took down Taylor Ficke on the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-3. On the No. 3 court, Amaury Navette won 6-2, 6-2 over Gavin Webster. Tom Kruse continued his strong play since joining the team prior to the semester with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph against Thomas Irick. Mike Psarros beat Conner Petty, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 match. To close out singles, Vinh Pham registered a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Austin Keberlein.
On the doubles courts, Castellano and Psarros notched a 6-2 victory in No. 1 play against Keberlein and Barnard. Navette and Gaismins beat Webster and Petty, 6-1, in the No. 2 matchup to seal the doubles point for the Roos.
UMKC will compete at Arkansas of the SEC at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday and Oklahoma State of the Big 12 Conference at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday.
