LINCOLN, Neb. – UMKC women’s tennis (0-2) was defeated 7-0 at Nebraska on Saturday morning at the Dillon Tennis Center. The Roos battled but were unable to find victories against the Huskers of the Big Ten Conference.
“The ladies faced a great Nebraska team today,” head coach Kendell Hale said. “We had a lot of opportunities. At No. 1 singles, we had seven deciding game points and lost six of them. That was sort of how the day went with lost opportunities. The match was much closer than what the score ended up.”
On the No. 1 singles court, Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) fell 6-2, 6-1 to Vasanti Shinde. In No. 2 competition, Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by Claire Reifeis. Marina Albert (Thebes, Egypt) dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Jeannie Lozowski on the No. 3 singles court. In the No. 4 match, Katie Fries (Overland Park, Kan.) fell 6-1, 6-1 to P.Del Cueto Castillo. Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) was bested by Katerina Matysova in No. 5 action, 6-1, 6-2. Wrapping up singles, Mariam Kurasbediani (Tbilsi, Georgia) lost 6-3, 6-4 to M’Balia Bangoura.
In doubles action, Johnson and Grechkina fell 6-2 to Mary Hanna and Lisa Andersson on the No. 1 court. Fries and Kurasbediani were defeated on the No. 3 court by Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad on the No. 3 court to seal the doubles point for the Huskers.
