MERRIAM, Kan. – UMKC men’s tennis cruised to a 7-0 victory over William Jewell in the spring season opener at the Kansas City Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.

The Roos won all six singles matches in straight sets and also displayed a dominant performance on the doubles courts.

Airam Castellano defeated Marc Gartner 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 action, Amaury Navette won 6-2, 6-3 over Bjorn Myers. Uldis Gaismins claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win against Timo Kiesslich at the No. 3 spot. Tom Kruse overpowered Hayden Faulk 6-0, 6-0 in his UMKC debut. Mike Psarros took the No. 5 contest, 6-2, 6-0 and Vinh Pham took the No. 6 match over Marco Martinez by the same score.

In doubles action, Castellano and Psarros won 6-2 over Kiesslich and Myers in the No. 1 match. Navette and Gaismins defeated Gartner and Fulk by the same score in the No. 2 showdown to claim the doubles point.

The Roos return to the court on Friday to face Montana State at 6 p.m. CT in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On Saturday, UMKC will take on Air Force at the same time.
