UMKC Falls at K-State in Spring Opener

MANHATTAN, Kan. – UMKC women’s tennis was defeated 7-0 at Kansas State in the spring season opener at Body First Indoor Tennis Center.

In No. 1 singles, Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) was defeated 6-3, 6-0 by Carolina Costamagna. Katie Fries (Overland Park, Kan.) fell 6-4, 6-4 to Millie Stretton in the No. 2 match while Marina Albert (Thebes, Egypt) lost the No. 3 showdown, 6-2, 6-2 to Ana Garcia Navas. At the No. 4 slot, Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) battled with Livia Cimu before falling 7-5, 7-5. Mariam Kurasbediani (Tbilsi, Georgia) dropped a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) decision to Iva Bago and Thanushree Vale (Chennai, India) was bested by Maria Panaite 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles match.

Johnson and Grechkina fell 4-0 in No. 1 doubles to Costamagna and Palma Juhasz. Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) and Fries dropped a 6-1 decision to Stretton and Garcia Navas in No. 2 competition while Albert and Vale were defeated by the same score in No. 3 doubles against Bago and Ines Mesquita.

The Roos return to action at Nebraska on Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. CT and will face South Dakota on Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. CT in Lincoln.
