EDINBURG, Texas – UMKC struggled offensively as the Roos fell to UT Rio Grande Valley 74-39 on the road Saturday night.

The Roos (5-10, 0-2) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter on pair of baskets by senior guard Ceidra Coleman (Bryan, Texas) and redshirt-sophomore Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.). Moore sank a pair of free throws late in the first quarter to give the Roos a 13-12 lead, but trailed UTRGV (12-6, 2-0) 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The UTRGV defense stifled the Roos for much of the second and third quarters, and UTRGV held a 54-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

UMKC managed to go on a 9-3 run late in the final quarter, but would eventually fall to UTRGV 74-39.

Coleman finished with a team-high nine points in the game. Moore tied for the game-high in rebounds with graduate forward Lyndsay Leikem (Tucson, Ariz.) with eight hauled in. Leikem also recorded eight points on the night.

The Roos return to Kansas City for a three-game homestand where they’ll face Seattle on Jan. 12, Utah Valley Jan. 14 and New Mexico State Jan. 21.
