(Kansas City, Mo.) – The UMKC men’s basketball program has completed the 2013-14 schedule, releasing the WAC portion of its slate on Wednesday. The ‘Roos are entering their first season in the new league and under head coach Kareem Richardson. The non-conference schedule was released on August 7.
Kansas City will play 16 games in the WAC before heading to the conference tournament, which will be held at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada March 11-14.
The WAC opener takes place on Thursday, January 2 at Idaho, followed by a Saturday outing against Seattle U on the road. The conference home opener is against Chicago State on Saturday, January 11 at Municipal Auditorium. The ‘Roos will face the defending WAC Tournament Champions, New Mexico State on January 18 at home as well.
UMKC will also play at least two games at Independence Events Center during the late conference season, showcasing the ‘Roos new brand of basketball to eastern Kansas City residents. Television games and times for games will be released at a later date. Fans can also expect an official 2013-14 roster release in the coming weeks.
Coach Richardson has managed to hire a coaching staff and sign a five-man recruiting class, while making a whirlwind of public appearances and doing interviews with dozens of media outlets throughout the region.
The work is paying off as new season ticket sales for 2013-14 have exceeded 2012-13 new season ticket sales by more than 180 percent. Even more impressively, total season ticket sales for 2013-14 have exceeded 2012-13 total season ticket sales by more than 40 percent, and it’s only early August. Also, a very limited number of floor seats remain at Municipal Auditorium.
