Pairings Set for Men's and Women's Tennis at League Championships

Kansas City men secured the top seed at the April 26-27 Summit League Tennis Championship at the Dr. Rudy & Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., and will face the hosts and fourth-seeded Fort Wayne Mastodons. The women are the No. 2 seed, the highest in school history, and will face third-seeded South Dakota State. 

Play begins with semifinal action on Friday, April 26 with both the men's and women's championship matches scheduled for Saturday.

UMKC, which collected its fourth consecutive men's regular season title, went 5-0 in The Summit League and has won five consecutive matches for an 11-10 overall mark. South Dakota State is the No. 2 seed, the highest in school history, after posting a 4-1 league record. The Jackrabbits enter the tournament riding a five-match win streak and have won eight of their last 10. Matching up against SDSU is No. 3 seed IUPUI, which is seeking its first Summit League Tournament championship after finishing as runner-up each of the past two seasons. The Jaguars went 2-3 in The Summit League. The No. 4 seed is Fort Wayne. The Mastodons won their final regular season match to finish with a 2-3 league record and earn their third Summit League Tournament berth.

Of the four tournament teams, only Kansas City has won a Summit League Men's Tennis Tournament title. The Kangaroos have won five championships, including each of the past two.

Fort Wayne secured the top seed for the women’s championship. The Mastodons, which collected their fourth regular season title in five seasons, went 7-0 in The Summit League and has won 14 consecutive matches for a 21-7 overall mark. Kansas City is the No. 2 seed after posting a 6-1 league record and a 10-13 overall mark. The Kangaroos will match up against No. 3 seed South Dakota State, which earned its first Summit League Tournament berth. The Jackrabbits went 5-2 in The Summit League, 15-9 overall, and are riding a seven-match win streak. The No. 4 seed is South Dakota, which also makes its first Summit League Tournament appearance after compiling a 4-3 league record and 14-10 overall mark.

Of the four tournament teams, only Fort Wayne has won a Summit League Women’s Tennis Tournament title. The Mastodons won consecutive crowns in 2010 and 2011.
