The Kansas City women's tennis team steps into conference play on Thursday as it hosts the first Summit League cluster at the Plaza Tennis Center over the next three days. The 'Roos will face Western Illinois, South Dakota State, Fort Wayne and Omaha.

The Leathernecks are 0-7 entering this weekend's action. The 'Roos are 3-15 all-time against WIU, but have won the last three meetings in shutout fashion.
South Dakota State - at Plaza Tennis Center (Kansas City, Mo), Friday, 9:00 a.m.
The Jacks are 7-7 entering the weekend. The 'Roos have a 5-1 record against SDSU all-time, winning the last five meetings, all by shutout scores.
Fort Wayne - at Plaza Tennis Center (Kansas City, Mo), Saturday, 9:00 a.m.
The Mastodons are 11-7 coming into this weekend. The 'Roos are 0-7 all-time against IPFW, falling last season in the conference semifinals by a 4-3 score.
Omaha - at Plaza Tennis Center (Kansas City, Mo), Saturday, 2:00 p.m.
The Mavericks are 2-4 entering this weekend's play. The 'Roos have only met UNO once, winning 6-1 last season.
WHO IS COMPETING
HEAD COACH KENDELL HALE
Kendell Hale is in his fifth season as the head coach of the UMKC women's tennis program. Overall, the 2012-13 season is Hale's 19th as a collegiate head coach, and compiled a 340-242 overall combined record coming into 2012-13. He has a current 45-71 mark with the women. Hale has coached nine all-league selections and was selected at the 2010 USPTA National Coach of the Year for his turnaround effort at UMKC.
2012 saw the 'Roos again break the school record for wins with 13, and they secured their first winning record since 1991-92 at 13-12. Laura Bouet and freshman Maddie Schulte both earned all-league honors. UMKC finished third in the regular season standings to qualify for the league tournament for the third straight year.
