Kansas City women's tennis hits the road for three matches, starting with a Thursday contest at Kansas, followed by a pair of weekend duals in Houston, Texas against McNeese State and the University of Houston.



Kansas - at Lawrence, Kan., Feb. 28, 3:00 p.m.

The Jayhawks are ranked 65th in the latest ITA rankings, and come in with a 4-2 overall record. They are led in record by No. 5-6 player Claire Dreyer, who is 15-2. The 'Roos are 0-6 all-time against Kansas, recording their first point against them last season in a 6-1 loss.


McNeese State - at Houston, Texas., Mar. 2, 2:00 p.m.

The Cowgirls are 7-3 on the season and are paced by No. 1 player Klaudia Gawlik, who is a perfect 10-0 on the year. The 'Roos have never faced MSU.


Houston- at Houston, Texas, Mar. 3, 11:00 a.m.

The Cougars come into the weekend with an 8-3 overall record. They have winning records at all six positions, led by a 7-4 mark from No. 1 player Elena Kordolaimi. The 'Roos are 0-1 all-time against UH, dropping a 6-1 decision in March of 2011.



Kansas City is playing Laura Bouet, Eva Dalvai, Suzan Lisenby, Amelie Amsallem, Gabby Pintos, Madeline Schulte, and Dimitra Stavrianakou in this week's action.



The 'Roos held off a charging Central Arkansas team 4-3 on Sunday, getting the deciding point from Dimitra Stavrianakou at the No. 3 position in the third set.



UMKC's current roster boasts three of the top four all-time winners in school history in Laura Bouet, Eva Dalvai, and Suzan Lisenby. The group includes three seniors. The roster also has the top three doubles players in school history. Not to be out-done, Maddie Schulte is ranked No. 7 all-time in wins. As a team, the 'Roos set a school record with 13 victories last season.



The Kansas City's men's and women's teams are the favorites to claim the 2013 Summit League Tennis Championships.

The Kangaroo women aim for their first title after setting the school record for wins in each of the past three seasons. UMKC garnered five of seven first-place votes to total 46 points, edging out Fort Wayne's 44 points and two first-place votes.



Kendell Hale is in his fifth season as the head coach of the UMKC women's tennis program. Overall, the 2012-13 season is Hale's 19th as a collegiate head coach, and compiled a 340-242 overall combined record coming into 2012-13. He has a current 45-68 mark with the women. Hale has coached nine all-league selections and was selected at the 2010 USPTA National Coach of the Year for his turnaround effort at UMKC.

2012 saw the 'Roos again break the school record for wins with 13, and they secured their first winning record since 1991-92 at 13-12. Laura Bouet and freshman Maddie Schulte both earned all-league honors. UMKC finished third in the regular season standings to qualify for the league tournament for the third straight year.

Before joining the UMKC coaching staff, Hale spent 11 years as the head coach at Rockhurst University, where he led the Hawks to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
